Are You Addicted To Sugar?

The correct answer to the following question will shock you.

Would you survive longer on a diet of just water OR on a diet of water and refined sugar?

The answer: You would survive longer on just water.   Sound impossible? Just ask the five sailors who were ship wrecked in 1793.

The ship was filled with sugar, thus giving the marooned five a diet of sugar and water. When they were finally picked up, nine days later, they were in a wasted condition due to starvation.

The story of the five sailors intrigued French physiologist Francois Magendie to conduct a series of experiments in which he fed dogs a diet of sugar. All of the dogs died. Magendie proved that as a steady diet, refined sugar is worse than nothing.

How can sugar be worse than nothing? Plainly put, refined sugar is an anti-nutrient. Read the rest of Are You Addicted To Sugar?

Optimal Nutrition When You’re In A Rush

In a perfect world, we would all carefully prepare each and every meal and snack that we’re going to consume on our weight loss diet plan.  We’d know exactly how many calories are in each meal and have the perfect breakdown of proteins, carbohydrates, and dietary fats.

Unfortunately though, we don’t live in a perfect world and very often, we simply don’t have the time to spend hours in the kitchen cooking our many meals and snacks to eat throughout the day.

When this is the case and you’re in a rush, the fast food restaurant may look all too appealing.

If you choose wisely, you definitely can get in some good nutrition with these tips, so let’s go over a few things to keep in mind so that you don’t throw your diet out the window.

We Are Not Perfect!

Hello readers of my blog.  You know since I am doing a little less of actual Personal Training myself and more focusing on my business and adding more value to clients, one thing I am striving for is to grow and develop this blog into one that is full of content that will pick you up and help you create a better “you”

It’s never a perfect road to creating a better “you”.

The next topic I want to talk about isn’t some fancy fat loss exercise or program, but deals more with your relationship with yourself and how it relates to fitness.

You see, before you can build yourself into the best version of yourself or before you can help others around you, you first must address how you feel about “you”.

I Quit As A Trainer!(With a catch)

Dear friends,

I got into personal training for 2 reasons.

1) Health and fitness was the one thing in and out of school that came easy to me and that I was passionate about.  When it comes to this stuff I totally threw myself into the books and learned from every guru out there.  I even worked for free at times just to get better.

2) The other reason is that I truly love helping people look and feel their best.  I get great satisfaction when I see people improve their lives and the fact that I had something to do with that empowers me to achieve more.   I truly believe in what I do and want to help make you a more IDEAL you, and as a fitness trainer it makes it possible in helping a whole bunch of people like you.

It’s feedback like this that reinforces my calling in life…

From Facebook

Barbara

  • Just to let you know….I climbed the 75 stairs (yes, I counted them) from the 53rd St./Fifth Avenue subway to the street. With (at least) a 15-lb. backpack (my computer, etc). I’ve done this before, and I’m not saying it wasn’t an effort, but I made it to the top with lots more to spare. :-) Now I have room for a burger at The Burger Joint. :-)

  • I love it! You’ve come a long way and still climbing Barbara!

Hi Greg,
I love reading your emails with all your encouragement, hope and belief in your
clients that they too are important to themselves as well as to others.  You are an
inspiration.  And all I can say to you is that you have come a long way baby and I
am so very proud to have known you before your amazing transformation from a
“trainer” to an owner and a leader.
I do sincerely hope that we can get together in the near future for dinner and I
wish you and your family (especially your Mom) a very Happy Easter.
Love,  Joycie

Now over the course of the last few months I have shifted my focus to building a team of trainer’s just like myself with the same values and philosophy.  Because by myself I can only help so many people.  A few months ago I brought Joe on board who is probably the best trainer I have seen and actually pushes me to step up my game.  You can just see his tremendous passion and energy when he is with his clients.

Also there is Carlos that just came on board who carries one of the most respected holistic training certifications in the industry.  He is very patient with his clients and adds great value to our gym.

So with everything that’s going on  I have decided that I cannot take on any more one on one clients myself so that I could put my energy on my existing clients as well as focus on our programs as a whole.  It allows me to not get so busy that I lose touch with delivering the best service possible.

BUT WAIT!….

I’ve decided that I wanted to personally beta-test our 8 week body transformation package which includes a professional athletic photo shoot at the end.  So what I’m going to do is actually donate my time with you for 8 weeks and personally train you and give you access to all the group classes FOR FREE.

No catch here, I just want take one person and transform their body and life that maybe normally couldn’t do it.

WELL MAYBE THERE’S ONE SMALL CATCH…

Anyone interested in getting this opportunity to be my last client for FREE for 8 weeks and transform their body has to do this:

  • Write to me a short paragraph on why they could really benefit from this intensive 8 weeks of free training with me.  You can email it to me here==>gregcrawford@anewpathforged.com
  • If you are selected…you must. I repeat must follow and be willing to eat exactly how and when we tell you.  I am not doing this so that you can yes me to death and go about eating the way you want.  Don’t worry I will not starve you.  Also you must be willing to put in 5 days a week of exercise and understand that it will be challenging. Be willing to push yourself.
  • Lastly, you should be our biggest fan.  Tell all your friends, family and colleagues where you’re training and what you’re doing. Gain support and follow through with your mission of making this change before the summer. Post on Facebook your progress and tell the world.

That’s it folks. I will pick the winner of this package next week and then we begin your training.  Oh and just for applying to win FREE training with me I will give those who email me a free week of training at my gym which includes our program manual.

Attack Of The “I Know” People!

Thanks for reading today’s post on being an “I know” person.  Before I tell you this short story about the situation I ran into the other day, let me first explain what an “I know person” is.

This is when someone is fully aware and is educated on all the facts about something that is either beneficial to them or is dangerous for them yet still decides not to act on moving in the direction of the beneficial side.  Instead this person uses the very famous line “I KNOW” as their excuse.

When I first opened my gym I met this young woman who just had her first child maybe in her early thirties that works at the bank right next door to my gym. She was looking at some of my programs and was interested in my affordable 21 Day Rapid Fat Loss program. She told me that she was unhappy being overweight and so out of shape.  She even said that she had two gym memberships to 2 different gyms that she never went to.  So I went over the program with her and the price.  She said that she just needed to go over it with her husband and get his approval, but wanted to do it.  So I said no problem, I’m right next door when you’re ready.

OPERATION BE HAPPY

I would have to say that I’m a generally happy and motivated person. But there are those days where I feel overwhelmed and a little down on myself.  One of my long time clients Karen refers to this as “our pity party.”

Now there is nothing wrong with having a bad day and feeling, well let’s just say, not as happy.  But too many times I see people are having WAY too many consistent days of unhappiness and lack motivation.

So I wanted to give you some things that you can start implementing in your life right away to change your mindset and become that happy person I know you really want to be.   It’s time to get remotivated and be reborn again because life is too short to be feeling unhappy and unmotivated.  Time to throw a wrench in the system, say f%$^ this and take action on these ideas I give you that are proven ways to becoming happier and motivated.

Let’s take into consideration all our senses. You have hearing, vision, taste and feel.  Now, we are going to use all these senses when taking action on what will improve our mood and makes us happy.

1)      Hearing

  • Remove yourself from negative people immediately!  This may be someone very close to you or colleagues or a friend.  These people are not living your life; YOU are living YOUR life.  So in order to be happy and motivated, you need to start surrounding yourself around like people.  I know this is hard, but it’s necessary.  If you’re always busy hanging around positive people, then you have an excuse for not being around your miserable friend.
  • Buy and listen to audio books.  This is by far one of the best things I have done for myself to enhance my mood and keep me focused.  If you are like me, you spend a lot of time in the car driving.  It’s a perfect time to listen and absorb some positive and educational shit.  Forget buying a bunch of motivational books, because most likely you won’t find time to sit down and read it. So find some good audio books at Barnes N Noble that fit your needs whether its motivation, spiritual, organization or goal planning.

2)      Vision

The problem with internet and TV is we are constantly bombarded with material that is depressing, not really true or brainwashed to buy a product that we probably don’t need.  Now I know what you’re thinking and yes TV and internet is a major form of entertainment. That is fine.  However, everything in moderation right?  How much time is spent watching the depressing news or some talk show about couples cheating or a reality show that really is NOT reality.

You need to be conscious of all this and start to limit the amount of time spent watching this stuff.  You don’t even know it, but it’s doing a number on your subconscious mind.  Pick your top 3 or 4 shows for the week and find something more positive to do.

I can’t remember the last time I picked up the newspaper or watched the news.  For that, I’m rarely depressed and guess what….I’m not really going to miss out on anything catastrophic.

3)      Taste

Ok this is a tough one.  Working with countless weight loss clients, I have come to discover what is called “comfort food”.  When someone is feeling down, they will resort to gauging themselves with highly processed, high sugar and salted foods that taste oh so yummy.

The problem with this is it is the beginning of a vicious cycle.  You see, when you say screw it and continue to eat foods that have no nutritional value, you are self sabotaging yourself and stripping your body of any mood enhancing nutrients.  This will lead to no energy and even more long term misery.

The solution:  Keep only natural “clean” food in your home.  Eat most of your food with a fork or spoon and not your hands, unless of course it’s fruit.  Supplement with recommended vitamins and nutrients to make up for the lack of nutrients in your diet.  Because at the end of the day, that imbalance of nutrients is what cause your mood and body to not be firing on all cylinders.

4)      Feel

Now this last one is a little tricky.  Tricky because we can talk about physical feel but also emotional feel.

So as far as emotional feel goes, refer back to the hearing part with who you surround yourself with.  Also your emotional feel can refer to your goals and career.  The world and universe is always changing whether we like it or not.

If you are stuck in a rut, make a plan on what you can do to change things and move in a different direction.  Playing the blame game is not going to align the universe for you. You must take action and follow your heart.

On the other hand if change has happened that is out of your control, then embrace this as another direction you should be moving in.  The “security” we once knew is no more.  Look at the big picture and keep everything in perspective.  Our lives are more that just our jobs.  Use and find tune your skills wisely and live your life.  Don’t let someone else dictate it for you!

To complete this article of finding true happiness and elevating your mood, you must move into the physical feel of the body.  Putting physical demands on the body has been proven through research to increase mood enhancing chemicals and hormones in the body.  Just embarking in a rigorous workout no matter what fitness level you’re at will totally change your mindset for the day.  For some of us this comes easy and may even become addicted to the euphoric feeling of those endorphins.  Where others find this to be most challenging.  That is why if you are one of the many to find this most challenging, reach out to me because I can help.
